Baconsthorpe
A small village 3 miles from Holt, set in the heart of the pleasant rolling countryside.

Exploring:
Baconsthorpe Castle, dating from 1480, is on the Holt to Baconsthorpe circular walk.

Blakeney
The harbour of Blakeney is the home port for many local fishermen and sailors. Although the quay virtually dries, visiting yachtsmen can anchour in Blakeney Pit or come alongside at high water. There is an active sailing club with slipway facilities for dingies and smaller boats. Naturalists and bird watchers have the surrounding marshes and marams which are National Trust property and freely open to the public.

Activities: Bird watching, sailing, walking, boat trips to the seal colony and nature reserve at Blakeney Point.

Quite a large village set in pleasant wooded countryside.

Cley-next-the-Sea
Cley used years ago, to be the port for Holt, but silting of the river Glaven and the encroachment of the sea now leaves the village separated from the shore-line by a shingle bank and the marshes which have become a haven for bird watchers and naturalists.

Churches: St Margaret (C of E).
Exploring: A small local art and craft gallery; St Margaret's is one of the Glaven Churches.

The twin villages of Corpusty and Saxthorpe, set in pleasant countryside, lie either side of the river Bure.

Edgefield
A small village on the Holt to Norwich road A1149. Popular with walkers and cyclists, the village is close to Holt Country Park.

The village is home to Langham Glass, a working glass factory with visitor's facilities. The village itself is unspoilt, with simple amenities.

Situated at the bottom of Letheringsett hill, this hamlet lies in the beautiful Glaven valley that features one of the few working water mills still producing flour for bread making.

Melton Constable
The village used to be hub of the Norfolk railway system, with its own engine building works, and the home of William Marriott a well known railway engineer of his time. Today with the railway long since closed, the area attracts walkers, cyclists and those generally interested in the countryside. Holt is 3 miles away and the coast a further 7 miles.

Morston
The village is between Blakeney and Wells a little inland from the marshes and marams so loved by naturalists and bird watchers.

Salthouse
On the coast road from Blakeney to Sheringham, this small village is on the marshes that are so popular with bird watchers and naturalists. It was flooded in recent times when the sea broke through the shingle bank during winter storms.

Wiverton
Between Blakeney and Holt, this small village is in open countryside on the edge of the Glaven Valley; popular with naturalists; the village also acts as host to several vintage car rallies each year, who meet at the pub on the green.
