Gallery and Exhibition Centre

The large, naturally-lit main gallery is divided into 19 alcoves of various sizes. Each alcove is effectively presented with the work of an individual artist complimented with a short biography. Unusually, the gallery does not charge commission on sales: instead, each artist rents an alcove for a three-week period. The public therefore, in effect, buys directly from the artist.

During the main Summer months the gallery is transformed quickly for one-man exhibitions. Curtains are closed across the front of each alcove and paintings are suspended from chains against the backcloth of drapes. Not only is the display visually effective, it eliminates storage and handling problems for the work hidden behind.

A major triumph for Picturecraft was national recognition of their display system through the NatWest Bank Business Award Scheme, when the gallery was awarded the highly prestigious Gold Award for Merchandising in 1991.
